Stimulus Eligibility

Within the HITECH Act is a commitment of $20 billion in financial incentives to encourage healthcare providers to adopt a certified Electronic Health Record system and successfully utilize it. By replacing the redundant paper-based record system with a universal electronic record system, medical costs will be reduced and patient quality care improved.

There are two incentive programs for physicians through Medicare and Medicaid; each program is unique and offers up to $44,000 & $63,750 respectively. Eligible Professionals (EP) must decide which program to apply under and cannot collect incentives from both programs.

Medicare Eligibility
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopath
  • Dental Surgeon/Medicine
  • Podiatrist
  • Optometrists
  • Chiropractor
Medicare Patient Requirements
  • No minimum patient requirements


Medicare Stimulus
Eligible Professionals can earn up to $44,000 over a five year period.

Medicaid Eligibility
  • Physicians (as defined by State Medicaid program)
  • Certified Nurse-Midwives
  • Nurse Practitioners/Dental Medicine & Surgeon
  • Physician Assistants in an FQHC or RHC


Medicaid Patient Requirements
    • 30% patient requirements for Physicians
    • 20% patient requirements for Pediatricians


Medicaid Stimulus
Medicaid offers up to $63,750 per physician over a six year period
